Getting ready for Pot Fest, Melton Mowbray, 2022
Countdown to PotFest – Melton Mowbray , 4th -6th November
20 Mug project – part 3
The mugs, now with handles and bisque-fired, ready for glazing.
Studio Update: February 2022
Had a long overdue glaze firing on 30th January- 3 months since the last.
Some great results including a very pleasing outcome with an experimental surface on 2 dinner plates.
20 mugs in a day -part 2
First fruits of the mug project – not too bad – I ended up with 17 reasonable mug bodies. Made the handles also – attaching them will be done on another day.
20 mugs in a day
Having watched Jeff from YouTube site ‘potters journal’ make 100 mugs in one day, I was feeling inspired and decided to attempt 20. Got my balls of clay ready first, each 15 oz. This is a reasonable task in itself.
Studio update: Sunday 9th January 2022
I am attempting 3 and a half pound jugs as I have a friend who would like a slightly larger jug.
This is a fair test of my throwing skills as in order to produce a jug with a reasonable weight (not too heavy) you have to get the most of out the clay which means throwing a good tall cylinder and then shaping it successfully.
Studio update: Sunday 12th December 2021
I have lately been concentrating on plates. I have a long-standing commission for dinner plates from some friends at work.
