I made this bird-bath pedestal (together with a large saucer) 2 years ago. Last year in a sharp frost, the original saucer shattered. For some reason, the pedestal was completely undamaged. I used 18lb of reclaimed clay to make this new bowl. It is somewhat deeper with a more curved shape. It was the largest piece of clay I had yet thrown. I glazed the inside to make it easier to clean. I glazed the outside purely for practice. I learned a lot about trying to glaze such a large piece.
It’s a nice piece although I do not yet know how the birds will feel about it. We shall see 🙂
